We understand coming to your first appointment can be nerve-wracking experience so we do everything we can to try make it as comfortable as possible. When you arrive for your Initial Appointment, you can expect to be warmly greeted into the space. After settling in, your psychologist will begin exploring your presenting problem, relevant background information and an understanding of what brings you along at this time.
At the end of your appointment, you and your psychologist will discuss your treatment plan, your goals and the treatment approaches that will be used, and other health professionals that may need to be involved.
You are most welcome to bring along a support person to the assessment.

A very important question!
Plenty of pay and display street parking available along Howe Street and surrounding streets. This would be the best option for a short stay
For longer stays, there are two parking blocks (paid by app) on Howe Street but please note this is monitored and without payment you risk being towed.

Due to the constraints of private practice, we are unable to see clients that are high medical risk (including being at a very low body weight), or high psychiatric risk (acute suicidal ideation).
In this instance, please contact your GP or the hospital emergency department for support.

Late cancellation & missed appointment fees give recognition to the time clinicians have put aside for the appointment, and time spent in preparation. Additionally, they recognise clients on a wait list.
Less than 48 hours notice - 50% of the cost of consultation
Less than 24 hours notice and missed appointments - Full cost of consultation
Cancellation timeframes exclude weekend days. Cancellation fees may be waived once on a case-by-case basis, determined by the treating clinician.
We are unfortunately unable to re-book clients who have 3 outstanding invoices.

We emphasise the importance of self-care between and around sessions, particularly, creating some space/time after session before returning back to daily routines.
We appreciate this may not always. be possible, but we would like to encourage our clients to make use of the main studio before/after. Whether it be to have a cup of tea, ground yourself with the props provided, or engage in brief meditative practice. Getting in touch with one's body and breath after session can be particularly helpful way to process and work through any thoughts/emotions that arose during or after the session.
SOMM have kindly offered a discount for clients who are interested in engaging in yoga / meditation / breathwork classes. Please discuss this with your psychologist further if you would be interested in this offer
